Avoiding At-Risk Alcohol Use

Program Code: 42255

Program Goal: The purpose of this program is to provide patients with information that will help dissuade them from risky drinking. It reviews:

  • The common reasons why people drink alcohol
  • The recommended amounts people should consume to reduce the risk of alcohol-related problems
  • Common signs of an alcohol use disorder
  • Tips for cutting down or stopping drinking if needed, or desired

Modernized Programs

Prenatal Genetic Testing for Chromosomal Abnormalities

Program Code: 22333

Subscriptions: EmmiEngage; EmmiDecide

Main Changes:

  • Harmonized content with UTD/CDI
    • Added language to specify that neural tube defects are another type of complication some tests can detect
    • Refined scope of program to only discuss screening & testing for chromosome problems
    • Created separate section to discuss screening for NTDs
    • Refined description of screening tests
    • Added language to clarify exactly which types of genetic disorders these tests look for
  • Edited language around abortion to accurately reflect the changing landscape around access
  • Updated content based on advisor feedback
    • Specified that the program does not cover carrier screening, but provides an explanation of what carrier screening is
    • Updated program to clarify that not all tests are available in all states since California now only offers cfDNA and MSAFP screening
  • Updated program for inclusivity
    • Added more diverse artwork
    • Updated for accessibility
    • Updated for gendered language
    • Edited to be inclusive of all ways people can become parents
    • Added information to account for people who are using a donated or previously retrieved egg

Patient Safety Instructions for Healthcare Settings

Program Code: 162

Main changes:

  • Changed the name of this program from “Patient Safety and Fall Prevention” to “Patient Safety Instructions for Healthcare Settings” so it’s easier to tell the difference between this program and the Fall Prevention and Home Safety program.
  • Removed discussion of blood transfusions as there is a separate Emmi for this that reviews risks, benefits, alternatives if someone should need one
  • Added “when using the bathroom” to discussion around in-patient falls based on client notes
  • Harmonized content with UTD
    • Added information about what you should understand before you go home
  • Updated program for inclusivity
    • Added more diverse artwork
    • Updated for accessibility
    • Updated for gendered language
Newborn Health and Safety

Hyperlipidemia

Program Code: 707

Main changes:

  • Harmonized content with UpToDate
    • Specified that hyperlipidemia is when a person has a high level of lipids, like cholesterol or triglycerides.
    • Deleted information about hyperlipidemia causing pancreatitis, dementia, and coronary artery disease to focus entirely on the larger cardiovascular problems
    • Updated list to include oily fish that contain DHA and EPA
    • Harmonized alcohol consumption recommendations (previously said some alcohol can be beneficial, now says any alcohol consumption can be harmful)
    • Mentions that if someone cannot take a statin, they can be prescribed a different medicine instead
  • Updated program for inclusivity
    • Added more diverse artwork
    • Updated for accessibility
    • Updated for gendered language

  • Updated content with AMR feedback

    • Replaced “Your Spine” section with “Your back” and added intro section
    • “Before your procedure” copied in pertinent info and aligned with modern standard language
  • Updates to improve inclusivity
    • Language updated to improve accessibility

Bronchoscopy

Program Code: 90

Subscriptions: EmmiEngage; Faith-Based EmmiEngage; EmmiPrep

Main changes:

  • Consolidated anatomy run so the viewer can immediately connect the anatomy with the procedure
  • Harmonized content with UTD
    • Added that numbing spray may also be used during the procedure
    • Added to let doctor know if you can feel any pain during the procedure
    • Made a clear delineation between “standard” bronchoscopy and ones which may include additional treatments
    • Rearranged risks to align with UpToDate risks in Beyond the Basics/arrange from most to least common
    • Edited alternatives as there are a few different procedures and surgeries that can be done to take samples from the lungs.
  • Updated program for inclusivity
    • Added more diverse artwork
    • Updated for accessibility
    • Updated for gendered language
