Interventional Radiology: Preparing for Your Procedure

The goal of this program is to help prepare patients for any type of interventional radiology procedures

  • Describes the benefits of interventional radiology procedures such as minimal recovery time and less anesthesia
  • Goes over how a patient’s information might be shared from their primary or referring provider to the interventional radiology team
  • Covers some basic information about what the doctor will need to know ahead of time
  • Briefly describes sedation and how it differs from general anesthesia

Interventional Radiology: Central Venous Access

Program Code: 39686

The goal of this program is to help prepare patients who are receiving a tunneled catheter or port via interventional radiology

  • Explains what central venous access is and gives some information about the difference between a port and a tunneled catheter
  • Goes over the anatomy of where a venous access device can be placed
  • Covers the basic steps of the procedure
  • Sets expectations for recovery and common signs of complications

Medication for Pain Management During Labor (Vaginal Delivery)

Main changes:

  • AMR and Harmonization Notes:
    • Removed language referring to specific medications (like fentanyl)
    • Added risks for “infection” and “hematoma” for epidural
  • Removed language referring to planned C-section so that the audience is focused on those planning on a vaginal delivery
  • Removed language referring to other sections for overview/short form videos – especially in the “Combined Spinal-Epidural” section
  • Updated language for consistency with Childbirth program (updated recently).
  • Updated to improve inclusivity
These updates have also been applied to the following EmmiEducate program:

Epidural for Pain Management During Labor

Main changes:

Lumbar Laminectomy

Program Code: 58

Main changes:

  • Edited Your Back and created Introduction so that “Your Back” is consistent with other back programs
  • Harmonized with UpToDate
    • Removed specific reasons that spinal stenosis may happen earlier in life (line 80)
    • Removed “lean forward” when talking about spinal stenosis improvement (line 90)
    • Added allergy to medication to list of things to tell care team about (line 113)
    • Edits to Alternative section to make it more clear that things like physical therapy can help with back pain
  • Update to latest language re: blood thinner/NPO, risks (bleeding, blood clot, anesthesia, death)
  • Made time frames more vague (for procedure/recovery time, time back to work, etc.) since they are so variable/personal
  • Added information to the Procedure section about minimally invasive surgery in case this is the technique that is used
  • Edited to be less gendered throughout
  • Updated Emmi language style throughout to be more concise
  • Changed doctor to surgeon where applicable
