Diabetes - Checking Your Blood Sugar

Main changes:

  • Removed information about discontinued meter that takes cartridges.
  • Other suggestions from Annual Medical Review (AMR) and UptoDate editors (UTD)
    • Added information about what the A1C means
    • Added information about how steroids affect checking your blood sugar
    • Added reference to pre-loaded lancets
    • Adjusted potentially judgmental language
  • New standard language for Emmi programs
  • Edited for clarity

Main changes:

  • Updated content per AMR and UTD suggestions:
    • Minor co-morbidity information changes
    • Minor language updates on diet and blood glucose testing
    • Removed extensive description about problems diabetes can cause in the body to make it less scary
    • Moved sugary drinks language to beginning of healthy eating run
  • Updates to improve inclusivity

Main changes:

  • Removed “I know this might sound ridiculous but think of it like if a shark was ripping off your arm while a train ran over your legs.”
  • Revised to state that nonopioid analgesics are often used along with opioids
  • Edited to make it clear that you’ll have other medications to help with pain (like NSAIDs) in addition to opioids and opioids are only for really intense pain.
  • Removed Oxycontin, which is an extended release formulation of oxycodone. Extended release opioids should not be prescribed for acute pain in opioid naïve patients.
